Calliopes are the smallest of the North American bird species AND the smallest long distance migrant in the WORLD! Each year they travel around 5000 miles between their wintering grounds in the pine-oak forests of Mexico and their nesting grounds in the meadows and pine forests of the Northwestern United States.
Hummingbirds in folklore and Magick represent LOVE, ATTRACTION, JOY and LIGHTNESS. Also appreciation for BEAUTY and the sweeter things in life. Hummingbirds can also be called on to add energy and swiftness to your intentions.
I have a few of my own associations for hummingbirds and they include RESILIENCE, ENDURANCE, FEISTINESS, and AGILITY.  While the flashy males may get all of the attention, hummingbirds represent FEMININE ENERGY to my mind. The female does all of the nest building and she alone raises and protects her young until they fledge. 
Call on Hummingbird when you need reminding that size matters not- speed, endurance, agility are just as powerful when facing obstacles in life. Also, hummingbird reminds you that there is beauty everywhere, in small things we might miss if we’re not paying attention.
